Visiting a local home and garden center can be a lot of fun but sometimes it can be difficult to sort through the many types of hardwood lumber that may be offered on the store's shelves. There are a variety of different sizes of pre-cut wood available but interestingly a piece of wood that's billed as being a particular set of dimensions won't always resemble the advertised size due to the dryness level of the wood and how the pieces were originally milled. It's often the case that a piece of lumber that's said to be an inch thick is actually only three quarters of an inch.
